I had $63,000 in credit card that I could not afford to make the monthly minimum payments on. I have been there. I have experienced your emotions; your fear, your guilt, your anxiety and your feelings of uncertainty and lack of control.
I learned how to get out of that debt without repaying it because I could not. I learned the realities of credit card debt collection and how to use consumer protection laws to protect myself. My name is Mel Thompson. I am the author of this website.
To find credit card debt relief you need to:
- Get control of those emotions so they do not cause you to have poor judgment when dealing with creditors.
- You need to avoid the tendency of trying to find someone else to handle this problem for you.
- You need to avoid the tendency of putting your head in the sand and hoping your financial problems will go away.
You can get control of your emotions by realizing how powerless debt collectors really are. Except for their deceitful threats, they can do nothing to harm you. If you learn to resist them, as I did, they will quickly move onto less well-informed indebted consumers.
Collection attorneys and their scary letterheads are the same. They hope you will submit and negotiate a payment schedule. In the unlikely event they do sue you, they hope you will not answer and default because you owe the debt. But, if you do answer and demand they document your debt to court standards, they will not be able to do that. You will prevail, despite owing the debt.
A whole industry has grown out of our natural desire to find someone else to handle this credit card debt problem for us. These debt relief companies promise peace of mind and collect their fees up front before they find us debt relief They do not produce on their promises. Avoid their siren songs and their fees.
Keep your head out of the sand and deal with the debt collectors who contact you in writing, by writing back to them CMRRR using what you learn here. Listen to debt collectors on the phone to find out what they know, or ignore them if they are rude.
